Who files an MCS-150
Every motor carrier with a USDOT number
You update your record every 24 months, even if nothing changed.
Anyone whose details changed
A new address, more trucks or drivers, or different cargo: update your record so it matches.
Carriers renewing UCR
The UCR Plan uses your vehicle count, and asks carriers to declare their vehicles while FMCSA’s update requirement is paused.
FMCSA has paused enforcement for updates due on or after June 1, 2026, while carriers move to Motus. It isn’t deactivating USDOT numbers for late updates for now, but the update is still required.
When your update is due
The last digit of your USDOT number sets the month. The next-to-last digit sets the year: odd digits file in odd-numbered years, even digits in even-numbered years.
| Last digit | Due by the end of |
|---|---|
| 1 | January |
| 2 | February |
| 3 | March |
| 4 | April |
| 5 | May |
| 6 | June |
| 7 | July |
| 8 | August |
| 9 | September |
| 0 | October |
