Get your hotshot authorityUSDOT, MC, BOC-3 and UCR for hotshot carriers
Hotshot carriers need the same authority as any for-hire carrier. We file it in Motus and help you get the weight rules right for your truck and trailer.

What your truck and trailer weight means
10,001 pounds or more
A truck and trailer rated at 10,001 pounds or more in interstate commerce needs a USDOT number, a DOT medical card, hours-of-service records and a driver file.
26,001 pounds or more
A combination rated 26,001 pounds or more, with a trailer over 10,000 pounds, needs a Class A CDL, and drug and alcohol testing then applies.
Hauling for pay across state lines
You need MC authority, a BOC-3 and UCR, like any for-hire carrier.
Over 26,000 pounds or 3+ axles
Crossing state lines also takes IRP plates and IFTA from your base state.
Most hotshot rigs cross 10,001 pounds, so plan on the full set of carrier rules.
Hotshot insurance
FMCSA’s minimum depends on the vehicles in your fleet, not on the kind of truck.
$750,000 liability
For general freight when any vehicle in your fleet is rated 10,001 pounds or more. Most one-ton dually pickups are, on their own.
$300,000 liability
Only when every vehicle in your fleet is rated under 10,001 pounds.
Cargo coverage
Not federally required for general freight, but most brokers ask for it before they tender a load.
How it works
- 1
Order and tell us about your business
A few questions about what you haul and where. We call you within one business day.
- 2
Verify your identity in Motus
FMCSA requires the company official to do this with a photo ID and a phone. It takes about 10 minutes, and we stay on the phone with you.
- 3
Add us as your service provider
One step in Motus gives Evergreen Comply access to complete the application for you.
- 4
Review, sign and you’re filed
You check our entries and sign. We track the filing until FMCSA activates it.
