Tennessee CDL MVR for employers
Order a commercial MVR for a CDL driver licensed in Tennessee. The total includes Tennessee’s $7.50 fee at cost. The driver enters their details and authorizes the report privately, and you don’t need an account to buy.
What a Tennessee MVR shows
Tennessee sells single or bulk MVRs online to business users and third parties through TN Apps, separately from the service drivers use to get their own record. Source
Tennessee says its MVR shows the past 3 or 10 years of driving history. Source
The years of history in a report ordered through Evergreen depend on what the state releases for employment checks.
Tennessee rules employers should know
- Tennessee sends a notice of proposed suspension to adult drivers who reach 12 or more points within any 12 months. Without a hearing, the suspension lasts 6 to 12 months. Source
- In 2026 Tennessee reviewed CDL records for proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency. Holders who got a letter and didn’t respond by April 6, 2026 are downgraded to a non-commercial license, so confirm current CDL status on a fresh MVR. Source
- Since June 15, 2025, CDL medical certificates reach Tennessee electronically from FMCSA’s National Registry, and a paper medical card is no longer accepted as proof. If the certificate expires, the driver loses CDL privileges. Source
- Tennessee’s Uniform Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Act, in effect since July 1, 1997, governs who can get personal information from driving records. Source
When you need a Tennessee MVR
- Hiring: within 30 days of a driver’s start date, get an MVR covering the past 3 years from every state where the driver held a license or permit in that time. That includes Tennessee even if your company is based somewhere else. 49 CFR 391.23
- Every 12 months: get an MVR covering at least the past 12 months from each state where the driver held a CDL or permit during that time, and review it. 49 CFR 391.25
- Not sure where else the driver has been licensed? MVR + CDLIS searches the national CDL database for licenses in other states.
Ordering directly from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security
To order online, a business opens a TN Apps account by completing a DPPA acknowledgment form and sending its business license or EIN and a letter of intent on company letterhead. Source

Questions
- How much does a Tennessee MVR cost?
- $16.75 for an MVR only, or $19.75 with a CDLIS search: Evergreen’s $9.25 or $12.25 report price plus Tennessee’s $7.50 fee at cost.
- How far back does a Tennessee MVR go?
- Tennessee says its MVR shows the past 3 or 10 years of driving history. The years of history in a report ordered through Evergreen depend on what the state releases for employment checks.
- Does the driver have to consent?
- Yes. After you pay, the driver gets a private link to enter their details and sign the authorization. The report runs only after the driver authorizes.
- Is a Tennessee MVR enough for a driver qualification file?
- It covers the Tennessee part of the record. A driver qualification file also needs records from any other state where the driver held a license in the past 3 years, plus the other documents listed in 49 CFR 391.51. An MVR is not a hiring decision.
