Georgia CDL MVR for employers
Order a commercial MVR for a CDL driver licensed in Georgia. The total includes Georgia’s $9.00 fee at cost. The driver enters their details and authorizes the report privately, and you don’t need an account to buy.
What a Georgia MVR shows
Georgia DDS issues a certified driving history report, also called an MVR, stamped and certified by DDS for employers, insurers and others who need an official copy. Source
Georgia DDS offers 3-year, 7-year and lifetime versions of its MVR when you request one from the state directly. Source
The years of history in a report ordered through Evergreen depend on what the state releases for employment checks.
Georgia rules employers should know
- Georgia suspends a license when a driver reaches 15 points in 24 months. A certified defensive driving course can remove up to 7 points once every 5 years. Source
- Georgia’s records rules limit a driver’s authorization to release their record to a period of no more than 60 days. Source
- Companies that order more than 50 MVRs a year can apply to DDS for a bulk MVR account instead of sending individual requests. Source
- Since June 18, 2025, CDL medical certificates reach Georgia DDS electronically from FMCSA’s National Registry. DDS no longer accepts them from drivers by mail, fax, email, online or in person. Source
When you need a Georgia MVR
- Hiring: within 30 days of a driver’s start date, get an MVR covering the past 3 years from every state where the driver held a license or permit in that time. That includes Georgia even if your company is based somewhere else. 49 CFR 391.23
- Every 12 months: get an MVR covering at least the past 12 months from each state where the driver held a CDL or permit during that time, and review it. 49 CFR 391.25
- Not sure where else the driver has been licensed? MVR + CDLIS searches the national CDL database for licenses in other states.
Ordering directly from the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)
To order one record directly, send DDS the original Form DDS-18 with the driver’s signed consent, by mail or at a DDS customer service center. DDS charges $7 for a 3-year MVR and $9 for a 7-year or lifetime MVR. Source
Drivers who want a copy of their own record should request it from the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). Evergreen sells reports to employers only. dds.georgia.gov
Questions
- How much does a Georgia MVR cost?
- $18.25 for an MVR only, or $21.25 with a CDLIS search: Evergreen’s $9.25 or $12.25 report price plus Georgia’s $9.00 fee at cost.
- How far back does a Georgia MVR go?
- Georgia DDS offers 3-year, 7-year and lifetime versions of its MVR when you request one from the state directly. The years of history in a report ordered through Evergreen depend on what the state releases for employment checks.
- Does the driver have to consent?
- Yes. After you pay, the driver gets a private link to enter their details and sign the authorization. The report runs only after the driver authorizes.
- Is a Georgia MVR enough for a driver qualification file?
- It covers the Georgia part of the record. A driver qualification file also needs records from any other state where the driver held a license in the past 3 years, plus the other documents listed in 49 CFR 391.51. An MVR is not a hiring decision.
